ANKLE FRACTURES

A fracture is a partial or complete break in a bone. A fractured ankle can range from a simple break in one bone, which may not stop you from walking, to several fractures, which forces your ankle out of place and may require you to withhold weight bearing activities for a few months. Ankles fractures can occur by twisting, rolling or rotating your ankle, or may be a result of trauma such as a fall or high impact accident. Symptoms associated with ankles fractures include immediate and severe pain at the site of the fracture, significant swelling, bruising, tenderness to the touch, inability to bear weight on injured foot, deformity of ankle (bone protruding through skin). Doctors classify ankle fractures according to the area of bone that is broken. Depending on the severity of the fracture treatment could involve surgical or non-surgical invention. If the fracture is out of place or the ankle is unstable, the fracture should be treated with surgery.
